So you may wonder what I am talking about. The Murphy bed is done. Jake started to build a Murphy bed after Christmas. He worked on it really hard for close to a week. Then it was time to go back to work. He worked on bits and pieces of it, but did not have a long block of time to work on it. Finally, on Saturday, March 26th, he finished a couple of things and started to get to work on staining it. The only place to do this was the driveway. We had soccer games, so the bed sat out there in pieces while we ran around to soccer games and a stake baptism. Then I returned home from the baptism and helped Jake stain the pieces. We are pretty good at the whole staining system after doing all the baseboards and doors in our house.
Right when we started to move some pieces to Reagan's room, it started to sprinkle a little, so we hurried and got everything in to dry in her room. Reagan had to sleep with the boys that night because the fumes were really strong. Then on Monday, after we celebrated Jared's birthday, we set out to work assembling the bed. We stared at about 10:00 p.m., when I finally got Reagan calmed down in the boys' room (she loves being with the boys, and I hate it because she is crazy). We worked hard and got it all together and bolted to the wall. Then the next day, we bought a mattress during Jake's lunch hour. Reagan now has an awesome queen bed that will be used by company when people come to visit. It is quite impressive. All of the boys are a little jealous and a ton of people in our ward want to come and see it.
You just do not see Murphy beds that much and Jake did an awesome job. Jake is a perfectionist, so he sees all of the imperfections, but I think it is outstanding. If anyone wants to build one, Jake now knows what not to do.
