Fifteen Year Plus Garage Clean Up

So we have now lived in our house over 15 years.  In that time, we have accumulated a lot of stuff.  However, one of the blessings of living in a small space is that you get pretty good at sorting through stuff and cleaning it out.

The one exception to that has been the garage.  I kind of consider the garage Jake’s domain because there are so many tools and gadgets and knick knacks that belong to him and I just let them go and do not know what to do with them.  During Christmas break we got to work and started to clean out the garage.  We had bought two sheds to put on our side yard and we separated and labeled and got rid of a lot of stuff.  Jake also built a bike rack to help with the bikes and I love it.  But we did not have time to finish the garage.  This last Saturday, we finally wrapped it up and went out and bought a second fridge to put in the garage and cleared out the rest of the stuff.  Unfortunately the second fridge does not seem to be working, so we may need to return that, but the garage looks great.  Jake just had to finally have the time to sit out there and sort through the stuff.  And it is good he did, because I probably would have just thrown it all away.  Wait, maybe that would have been better.

Now hopefully we can be motivated to keep it clean and organized.  His workbench still needs work, but at least it is contained in that area.  Hooray for a few free Saturdays, that is just what we needed.  It was fun to see the kids so excited and in many ways, Jared spearheaded this project.  He was so sick of the clutter and kept on reminding us that we needed to work on it.  I think his dad finally took the hint.  Thanks Jared.

It may not look very clean, but it is organized for us.

This bike rack is awesome.  I wish we did not have to take up any space in the garage, but we have nice bikes and this seemed to be the only solution.

Ignore the bike in the middle of the floor.  After we finished, he noticed that Eric had flat tires and got to work on fixing that.  There is always a project for dear old dad.
